God Bless You Mr. Rosewater

Saddened to read this morning that Kurt Vonnegut has passed away. The world is a poorer place without him.

Poo tee weet.

Update: I logged this early yesterday, upon my first shocked reading of Vonnegut's passing. Since then the blogs have been filled with eulogies far more eloquent than I could muster. Friend George at Fool in the Forest expresses many a shared sentiment.

  1. From a Guardian obit: "We are put on earth to fart around," said Vonnegut, "don't let anyone tell you any different.".

I haven't actually returned to any of the novels in years (I need to rectify that) but reading Cat's Cradle, Sirens of Titan -- heck everything Vonnegut wrote from the beginning through Breakfast of Champions -- was and is hugely influential on how I write, how I think, and how I look at the world. What a sweet cynical funny funny (did I mention funny?) soul he was.

    Poo Tee Weet, indeed.
